Walk Daily
From March until June of this year Bill and I stood along side of Bill's mother and step-father, Jay, as they learned of cancer that had already spread to Jay's lungs and bones. We learned this March 23rd and Jay died June 5th. We had already been dealing with post-concussive syndrome with his mom and pending shoulder surgery for Bill. To say it was a lot to handle would be an understatement!
Those of you that have already been on this road know how many decisions must be made - surgery, other treatments, insurance, does he come home to die or remain in a facility, who will care for him if he goes home, how do you do that, what legal paperwork must be done? - on and on. Beyond that, how do we keep getting up each morning to deal with these things as well as our normal responsibilities? The answer ..... walk daily, even hourly, in the power of Christ.
I found myself daily praying for the fruits of the spirit not only in my life but for all of us caught up in the unfolding drama. Many nights were spent praying like this:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. (OH, Lord. You are so holy and so good.)
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. (Lord. You number our days. Please, help us walk in your timing and your will for this situation.)
Give us this day our daily bread. (Please, Lord, grant us rest tonight and the ability to go on tomorrow.)
Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. (Lord, forgive me for snapping and complaining. Help me forgive those who have hurt me and help me make amends.)
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. (Lord, help me with my anger, my disbelief, my desire to quit.)
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen (Thank you, Lord, for your plan for our lives and for our world. Please bring us all home to be with you one day.)
May we all hang on tight to the hand of God in our daily trials.
Walking with you in Christ,
Tricia Willcutts
